half my life in a skoolie, but new to the forum

good morning!
i've lived in #TheBarbieDreambus for 23 years now, and i'm 46 years old, so this has been my home for half my life! my bus is a clunky old 1971 Carpenter, but the steel is so thick and strong, it'll last the rest of my lifetime, no problem.

for years i stayed on the down low, and only my closest peeps knew about my alternative home. because if i told people about my bus, most seemed to think i was homeless. what a relief that there are now communities like this one, normalizing tiny living! thanks, y'all!!

i'm in the middle of a full bus renovation right now, putting down wood floors, a well as redoing windows and walls... the leaky old windows had done lots of damage over the years, and i had extensive mold issues. but it's gonna be amazing when i'm done!

i live alone with my 2 #skooliecats , hidden in the woods of the Rocky Mountains at about 8000 feet elevation. and i can't imagine ever returning to a normal house or apartment. :)

This is so cool! I think there are many out there that have been doing this for a long-time and we are really glad that alternative lifestyles are finally being accepted. There is see so much creativity coming out of everyone that just can't be realized in a normal house or apartment. It is also good to have all of these buses being repurposed that would otherwise be more waste on this planet.

Hope your renovations go well! It seems we are always renovating to optimize the space, make the skoolie warmer during Wisconsin winters, and make it more and more our home over the years! :)

How wonderful - simply gorgeous! I love your whimsical taste - Barbie Bus!! Do you offer tours? Just Enjoy LIFE! I have been doing some research in hopes of buying a school bus to convert into a Skoolie. However, I am a little disappointed at this time because I just found out today that school buses are not permitted in my neighborhood (a subdivision) - they are considered commercial vehicles. So now I have to think of a Plan B. I don't want to give up on my dream. Good luck to you.

how frustrating! you could build and store your bus elsewhere, but that would be added cost and complication.

skoolie conversions are usually titled, plated and insured as RV's, which might help, but maybe not.

i can picture someone buying a finished skoolie and bringing it home only to learn of that HOA rule, but talking their way around it because the vehicle is legally an RV. but a build in progress is a taller hurdle.

if you find a way to attempt it, you might wanna work your magic on the exterior first before starting on the real build. perhaps neighbors would find it less worthy of complaint with a nice paint job.

but absolutely don't give up on your dream! there has to be a way. good luck!!
